Minecraft Legends review: A strategic action game

Minecraft Legends gameplay

Mojang Studio wants to take Minecraft in a new direction, but they haven’t escaped the old shadow yet. When we look at Minecraft Legends, we find it both new and familiar.

Firstly, it is an action strategy game, not a simulation or construction like Minecraft. This is what makes it look fresh. Specifically, gamers will participate in the real open world, collect resources, build defenses, and recruit mercenaries to protect their kingdom.

Legends will be a strategic action game, different from Minecraft!

Secondly, it retains Minecraft’s iconic building element. You must build a defense base to complete missions – which is vital for your fight.

The construction mechanism of Minecraft Legends is very similar to Minecraft. It also requires you to mine resources and craft tools to build according to your imagination. But in Minecraft, you make things in multiple styles. In that case, Minecraft Legends focus on solid defensive structures, which can protect your team.

The construction element is both new and familiar

Build your buildings

As mentioned, buildings are an integral part of your strategy. You need materials from common to rare, like wood and stone, iron, Redstone, etc. Combine them in your way to create the following constructions:

  • Defensive buildings: walls, turrets, castles, citadel, …
  • Spawnbuildings: create combat units.
  • Improvement buildings: help unlock new abilities for units.

Initially, you will have a small number of resources, usually only wood and stone. But over time, you can mine more and gain access to new materials to build better structures and craft better tools for more interactions.

Build various constructions from collected materials

However, unlike Minecraft Cool Original Flavor, you have less to do. Much of the mining and crafting tasks are assigned to Allays under your control. They can mine and gather resources of a certain type within a small area. This frees up your hands to do things like strategic thinking and combat.

Gather an army for endless wars

Minecraft Legends game focuses on your character, who will roam around on dynamic mounts, wielding swords and leading hordes of tiny creatures. The biggest goal is to defeat the strongholds of Piglin – the odd pigs. It would help if you assembled a deadly horde of small golems with all sorts of abilities, from melee to ranged and healing.

Control your team to defeat the stronghold of the pigs!

When you win a part of the world map, you will add new units, like zombies, skeletons, and creepers, to your deadly force. Each unit has its own advantages. Melee golems are agile and sluggish; creepers rush into structures and deal great damage.

You are also not out of range of wars. Unlike the usual tower defense games where you sit and point to control groups of troops, Minecraft Legends allows you to fight your way. Ride on the back of an animal, wield a sharp sword, and chant your name! That’s your style in this game.

Play alone or with friends

The game features single-player, cooperative, and competitive modes. As such, you can go alone in a large open world or play with friends on more difficult quests. What’s your option? We recommend playing cooperatively or competitively because it’s more fun. Fighting forces from online players is also more challenging than battles with AI that seem silly.

Iconic Minecraft environments

Minecraft Legends captivates players with its engaging structure and adorable piglets. Exploring the Overworld to uncover rare resources and secrets keeps the gameplay interesting. The day-night cycle remains crucial, as piglets either fortify strongholds, build outposts, or attack villages during nighttime. Protecting villages is essential since they generate resources and provide access to stronger armies.

Besides, the medium-sized Legends’ map is adorned with iconic Minecraft imagery, creating an immersive and organic environment. The game world feels alive, from packs of wolves wandering the plains to turtles meandering through ponds. Unique features like Bouncecaps encourage players to explore vertically, leading to exciting discoveries and occasional mishaps.

3D design with familiar block style

Once again, you enjoy the familiar blocky style in Minecraft Legends. It’s a great feeling. Although it is based on Minecraft, this game has something new. Its environment is better designed and more fantasy. The system of creatures and buildings is also more diverse, which stimulates us to constantly move to explore.

Enjoy diversity in environment and climate

That vast environment is divided into many areas, each with its color, topographical features, and climate. You can see vast yellow deserts, rich and deep green forests, or snowy areas. It’s great to be able to explore all of them on your itinerary.

Overall, we highly recommend Minecraft Legends in this review. It is remade based on Minecraft but is not only a sub-version but has its characteristics. The most attractive point is in the strategic action gameplay, which gives you the freedom to fight and control the deadly force for the big fight. Moreover, the ecosystem is more diverse, providing many exciting places and things to explore in the long run. Does this impress you?
